This educational program is filled with information and strategies designed to prepare you for the best possible experience of surgery.

Research has demonstrated that mindbody approaches to surgery can help to:

speed healing and recovery.

reduce complications.

reduce pain.

reduce anxiety.
reduce blood loss.
shorten hospital stay.

In this program you learn how to:

mentally and emotionally prepare for your surgery.

stay calm and relaxed using belly breathing, music, deep relaxation and imagery.

give healing instructions to your body.

confidently collaborate with your medical team - physicians, nurses, etc.
identify your needs for support and develop a plan to have them met.
develop a personal plan that incorporates what you learn into a daily practice to support your recovery.

Research has shown that patients that prepare
mentally and emotionally for surgery have fewer complications, less discomfort and recover more quickly.

The Having Surgery? program is delivered as a one-to-one session of 90 minutes or a three hour group session. A comprehensive manual and guided relaxation CD/audiotape are provided.
